'You won't keep me in here, I have so much to learn, to see and to do...'
We are thrilled to be back at Scoil Teampall Toinne for another year of learning, love and laughter. There are so many things to look forward to this year. Firstly we have our new Junior Infants who will be a welcome addition to our school community. Then we have our new teachers and old teachers, who will work hard to share their knowledge, gifts and talents to help everyone be the best they can be. Finally we will have all of the exciting projects and activities that will take place along side the normal day to day learning. This September we will be busy learning new routines and getting back into the swing of things. It is the longest term as it runs right through to Christmas so routines will be important to help keep things running smoothly. Some of the things to look forward to: The School Assemblies: Last year we decided to have a monthly school assembly to bring everyone together to celebrate achievements and to catch up on the many things that go on in every classroom. At the assembly, a Principal Award is given to one person from every class to award students who are working extra hard in every area of school life but especially in maintaining and promoting our school motto 'Kind feet, Kind Hands, Kind Words, Kind Actions'. Similarly different classes will be picked to do a whole class performance. The assemblies have been a wonderful addition to our school life and we will look forward to them continuing this year. Sports: We look forward to the new Astro-Turf being opened as sports are so important to us in this school. We will be taking part in GAA coaching every week for the year. We will also be taking part in whole school Gymnastics in January and the junior school will get to do swimming after Easter. With all of these fundamental movement skills, we will surely be the fittest students in Ireland. There are lots of blitzes and competitions to look forward to so that everyone gets a chance to move. Keep your eyes peeled. Science: We will working with SFI to promote science across our school so we expect every class will be working hard to make their classroom a STEM or STEAM classroom. In January, we will hold our annual Science Fair which will be hosted by 5th and 6th class students (hopefully there will be no explosions). As well as that, the whole school will be taking part in a huge Science Project that will be unique to our school and involve everyone from Juniors to 6th Class. We cannot wait to figure out what this will be... stay tuned. The Arts: Music is such a big part of our school as we have a number of regular performances throughout the year. Seamus Hennessey, our local superstar musician will be teaching Ukulele across the classes in school. Everyone will be taking part in the Christmas Carol Service ran by our local choir which is always such a treat. Lots of students in the school will be learning the tin-whistle which is always great fun and Scór will be running in February and March so hopefully our music group will be as successful as they were last year. Art is a subject that is much loved by all the kids in the school. The students will be busy this year keeping our walls full of their different designs and projects. One big event we will be looking forward to is our Pumpkin Carving Competition at Hallowe'en. Our students and their families went over and above last year to show off their amazing creativity. Lets see what will come this year. Drama is a wonderful subject that helps children develop important skills and gain confidence. Last year we finished the year with a class show (a bi-annual event). This took lots of work to put together the productions but was worth it as every student was excellent and had their time to shine. This year, children will use Scór as an opportunity to showcase their dramatic ability either in the Recitation Competition or in the Novelty Act. Similarly 2nd class will be performing the annual Nativity Play which is always a wonderful treat. Guest speakers We are always so lucky to have so many different speakers and experts coming to share their knowledge with us. We will be looking forward to seeing who will pass through our doors this year. These are just a few of the many activities that will enrich the lives of our students and staff in this coming academic year. No doubt, there will be many surprises along the way. Stay tuned on our social media platforms of Facebook or Instagram to get a closer look at our weekly school activities. For now, Beir Bua agus Slán!!!
