Reminder: *Junior Infants will go home early at 1 p.m. on Thursday to accommodate the arrival of the incoming Junior Infants. *School will be closed on Friday May 24th as the school is used for a polling station for the European and Local Council Elections. *A note went home to all families today detailing upcoming important events in our school. This week has been very busy in our school. We will welcome our incoming Junior Infants into our school on Thursday. The parents and new pupils will meet with their teacher and see their classroom. We are all very excited to welcome them to our school over the next few months. Junior Infants learned about 'Dragon Rock' which Aoife kindly brought into school. Aoife was very lucky to visit Wexford some weekends ago and she returned with a precious piece of rock which she showed her class. Last weekend our second class received the Sacrament of First Holy Communion. The children were excellent on the day. They were well behaved and recited their prayers, reading and poem diligently. Well done to all of the children who received the sacrament. Furthermore, many thanks to Fr. Flynn, the parents and parish council for all their preparation and organisation for the day. Everyone in the school would also like to express immense gratitude to all the parents who supported the occasion by baking and volunteering on the day. First and second class visited the playground on Monday to soak up some sunshine and celebrate the second class receiving their First Holy Communion. Fifth and Sixth, along with the rest of the school auditioned for our School's Variety Show which will take place on Tuesday evening, June 18th. Every class will perform on the night with special individual and group acts performing also. Watch this space for the up and coming talent of Ballyporeen! Third and Fourth Class had a visit from a local Firefighter. They learned about the important work that the Fire Service carries out. They heard many stories of how dangers have been prevented and eradicated. The children also saw and investigated some of the equipment used by the Irish Fire Service.

They saw the medical room in the station. They saw and rubbed the horses from the Garda Equine unit. They saw a Garda speed gun, a Garda car and they learned about all the weapons that are used in the Garda Armed Response Unit.
