After many delays and postponements of matches, our school mini-league came to a conclusion today after Amy-Rose’s team defeated Ryan’s in the final of the classroom mini-league.
This was the second thrilling instalment after the first game ended in a draw. The sharp shooting of Seán English, along with the game’s MVP, Amy-Rose O’Dwyer, won out the day after a very entertaining final. The pupils only took up basketball in the middle of October so seeing them develop and master the skills has been fantastic. I think a few of the more GAA orientated pupils learned just how exhausting and physical basketball really is. It’s always great to experience a new sport and this is something we encourage in the school. Healthy body, healthy mind! The pupils of 5th and 6th class celebrated St Brigid's Day by making the traditional crosses and learning about some customs and traditions that go with it.
While working on the crosses, some of the pupils were discussing how it would be nice to make crosses for people in the community who had nobody to make one for them. With that, we spent a large part of the day collecting rushes and making crosses before leaving them in Pat Russel's shop to be handed out to his customers. It was a lovely gesture and a small way for the children to give a little back to their community. We hope this can be something we make an annual event. After all, with a new bank holiday in her honour, we need to remember St Brigid more then ever! The Children have been very busy since returning to school this year. Each class has been working hard within all subject areas but most recently there has been some wonderful working happening in 3rd and 4th class. Take a look at some of the art they completed to celebrate the New Year. We tested our cooking skills by making a delicious and healthy vegetable soup. Our soup was packed with fresh vegetable and was a great way to heat up our hands on a cold winters day. Happy St. Brigid’s Day
